Family Movie Night. Made better with CVS.

Family Movie Night. Made better with CVS. | Dearest Geeks of EarthWeekends win at all the things. Mainly because Family Movie Night.

Almost every Saturday evening throughout the year sees us cozied up on the couch under a pile of blankets, ready to take in the latest cinematic awesome over bites of melty, saucy pizza eaten right from the box.

And once holiday breaks from school and work start, we make Family Movie Night a double-night, double-feature. (Because chilled kids in snow pants who spent the whole day sledding and digging tunnels to Narnia need a nice quiet way to wind down and warm up while their exhausted parents relax.)

However, we can’t eat pizza two nights in a row (college will come soon enough, kids), and since my snack preferences revolve around fresh fruit and pretzels while theirs lean more toward scoops of slow-churned ice cream and bowls of sprinkles served straight up (the youngest’s fave), it can be hard to find a happy medium. I’m still going to need control over what’s going into their bodies while making them feel like they’re binging on the forbidden. Because that’s how parenting works.

CVS recently introduced a line of better-for-you products under its new Gold Emblem Abound label, including snack bars, trail mixes, dried fruit, popcorn and rice chips that kids actually like to eat.Family Movie Night. Made better with CVS. | Dearest Geeks of EarthEach of its more than 40 (!) wholesome snack options is free from artificial flavors and preservatives and contains no trans fats. What’s more, a lot (thought not all) are gluten-free, sodium-free, cholesterol-free and peanut- and tree-nut free, and many contain great sources of protein, fiber, potassium, probiotic cultures, and omega-3s like African baobab, dark chocolate, mango, almonds, walnuts, cherries, rice flour, hazelnuts, blueberries, puffed brown rice, and other power-packed, kid-pleasing ingredients.

And while our oldest can’t eat many Gold Emblem Abound snacks due to their peanut- and tree-nut ingredients and his life-threatening allergy (us grown-ups save the nutty trail mix goodness for after hours when the kids are asleep), he can have (and loves) the Baked Rice Crisps (Sea Salt is his fave, though there are also Salt & Vinegar and Barbecue varieties too) and Heavenly Light Popcorn, which is basically like eating lightly-salted clouds. (Our youngest, who has a peanut-only sensitivity, loves snacking alongside her big brother, and seeing them tucked up together, actually sharing, is kind of everything.)

What’s more, prices range from a very affordable $2.19 to $10.99, and coupled with the CVS Extra Care Program, better-for-you Family Movie Night snacks aren’t the only benefit.

The program, which is a free-to-join rewards and savings plan, gives you 2% back in ExtraBucks Rewards (use them like free CVS money) on everyday purchases, with personalized coupons available online, in-store and on your receipt.
