While promoting her new book, “True Love,” Jennifer Lopez shared her struggles with self esteem in a candid interview with Today Show‘s Maria Shriver.
Understanding how to love herself has proved to be a major turning point, with Lopez noting that the key to happiness is embracing the good and the bad.
And then she said this, which I had to write down immediately:
“It makes me crazy that people try to put women in a box, or try to say, if you’re a mom, you can’t do this, or if you’re sexy, then you’re not smart. Yes, I can be an awesome mom, and I can be a sexy woman, and I can be a smart businessperson. I can do all of it. Just let me.”
YAAAS.
Hi-fives, J.Lo. Hi-fives.

Ooh yes—love that quote! I have definitely worked over the years to be comfortable in my own skin, but am still a work in progress even on that front.
We hear that! Being human automatically lends itself to being a perpetual work in progress, but when a public figure lets us all know she’s right there with us, it’s encouraging.
Love this! I feel like I’m constantly being defined by my titles: mom, blogger, teacher, wife… it’s nice to say I am what I am and I’m all of it at once.
Absolutely. More often than not, men don’t have to answer to anyone about who/what they are, and it’s about time women did the same without feeling pearl clutchy about it.
All of the yeses for J.Lo! Nobody should be put into a box or labelled. Sadly it’s women that are the worst at doing it to others!
Ain’t that the truth!
