It’s the most wonderful time of the year, which means visiting and being visited by the friends and family you love most.
And since the holidays are synonymous with holiday music played on a perma-loop and hosting overnight guests from afar, creating a comfy cozy retreat where they can relax, unwind and feel at home is kind of what the spirit of the season is all about.
Better yet, the perks of having extra people in the house – more laughs, more holiday movie marathons, more late-night conversations, more runs down the sledding hill, more hugs – are worth the extra effort it takes to prepare for their stay.
We don’t have the chance to host very often since most of our family is dotted across most of South America and Europe, but I like the idea of creating and maintaining a simple space that’s reflective of our eclectic tastes.
Wayfair is my ultimate home goods enabler. They have eleventy mabillion finds to suit every style and budget, which means you don’t have to spend a lot to get a lot for your guest room.
A beautiful luggage rack keeps travel-worn suitcases off the floor – and off your clean duvet.
An array of blankets like a colorful lightweight throw and mid-to-heavyweight faux fur version are always good to have on hand, as is fan for those who prefer their room warmer or cooler at night.
A nightstand stocked with the basics – an alarm clock with illuminated hands, an easy-to-operate sound machine and reading lamp – is always welcome, as are thoughtful touches like a drinking glass, carafe filled with fresh water and whimsical paper straws.
A set of small bowls offers guests an attractive spot for their jewelry and other valuables, while cheery faux florals – single blooms or a small group of blooms from the same genus are my fave – bring a little of the outdoors in without the allergens that come with their fresh counterparts.
A pretty serving tray does double duty as a charging station (add a small hand-written card with your WiFi password), and a cozy accent chair or stack of floor cushions invites guests to unwind somewhere other than the bed.
Go the extra mile by arranging all those schmance hotel soaps and lotions you bring home from every trip but have no idea what to do with in a small spa basket atop a stack of fresh guests-only towels, and set up a slim, full-length mirror that allows your visitors to perfect their look in the privacy.
We’re way pleased to partner with Wayfair to give away a $500 Wayfair.com gift card to one lucky winner. Your guest room (or any other room in the house) will fling glitter with the happy. So hurry and up and enter, because it only runs through December 17.

I’m ready to come visit! I also love having a journal to serve as a guest book in our guest room to encourage guests to leave a note.
LOVE the idea of including a journal in the guest room, Tamara!
I want to be your guest! I love these. I appreciate a good luggage stand and retro fan too!
LOL… we kind of want to be our own guests too, Leah.
I LUV Wayfair.. and I am all about guests at Olde bridge Place..Cheers
You have AMAZING taste in decor, Dee. Pretty sure you’re keeping Olde Bridge Place packed!
Love, love, love the DHI Enzo Sunflower Arm Chair. They would provide additional seating for entertainment http://www.wayfair.com/DHI-Enzo-Sunflower-Arm-Chair-AC-EN-LC023-DQH1092.html
Great pick, Beth! We’re digging that same chair in charcoal.
I love a cozy guest room! I would add a hardworking chest of drawers, like the Harbour 5 chest – http://www.wayfair.com/Sauder-Harbor-View-5-Drawer-Chest-158015-401323-SAU1294.html
for guests to store their clothes, keep valuables high enough away from all the little fingers we have in our house & who come to visit. I would use the extra drawers to store linens and other guest room items as my guest room is multi-purpose!
Agreed, Kat! Plenty of storage is key, and having extra drawers available for the times guests are not around is always a good idea. (Our guest room is multi-purpose too.)
I love the big serving tray!

Oooh. We want that too, Jessie! Great pick.
I drool every single time I look at the Wayfair website! I love how modern their stuff is, but still has a hint of vintage. I want to redecorate my house so badly!
Little by little, Jenn!
I love these adorable wine glasses! http://www.wayfair.com/Certified-International-Hot-Tamale-White-Wine-Glass-14293Set-6-CEI1674.html
So festive, Lori! Makes us wish summer was here again already.
What a great looking guest room that would make! I’d love to come over and stay in it.
Thanks, Krystyn!
