‘Arthur’ is spoofing ‘Downton Abbey.’ Because that’s the thing to do.

Arthur is spoofing Downton Abbey. Because that's the thing to do. | Dearest Geeks of EarthAh, Downton Abbey.

It’s the stuff of silver screen legend, which of course makes it rife for the spoofing.

PBS Kids’ Arthur is the first to parody the period drama in the new year with an all-new episode premiering on Monday, January 26. (Check local listings.)

Called “Fountain Abbey,” the caricature will see everyone’s favorite aardvark and his friends (D.W. as Lady Violet is spot-on) discovering the secrets and stories that their families hold. Muffy will be absolutely devastated when she learns that her great-great grandmother, Mary Alice, wasn’t royalty at all but a common maid. Because of course she will.

But, while reading Mary Alice’s diary, Muffy will find herself transported back in time to the famous English estate where her ancestor worked, and will discover the surprising story behind her humble roots.

A new week of Arthur will continue with funny storylines with tongue-in-cheek homages to The Wizard of Oz and The Tell-Tale Heart, plus valuable lessons about honesty, empathy, and determination.

“Fountain Abbey” will be available on DVD January 27 through PBS.
