With less than 10 days left in the school year, my kids’ thoughts have already turned to swimming lessons and sleepovers and summer camp adventures.
Mine on the other hand, have slowly unraveled into an overwhelmed mess. Not because I don’t love summer break and a chance for my two to explore outside the classroom, but because my daily routine of organized silence while they’re at school is quickly slipping away.
Moms and dads everywhere are similarly lamenting the end of days, and while us work- and stay-at-homers are being the littlest bit dramatic (after all, our littles will only be little for about a nanosecond and we secretly love having their sweet faces in our faces), the time when we start counting down the days until school starts again will inevitably start sooner rather than later.
CVS gets it, and as a neighborhood fixture-turned-parent sanity saver, asked me to come up with a creative way to show solidarity with fellow parents this spring and summer. And, since we all know parenthood and time warps that cause entire days to pass by in what feels like minutes are practically synonymous, I decided to come up with a little something that will slow down the universe. If only for a little while.
This Spa in a Jar takes very little to put together, and can be customized for moms, dads, grandparents, anyone tasked with taking care of kiddos all summer long. It’s an easy way to let someone you love know you’ve got their back. And their feet. And face. And well, you get it.
I went with pampering bath and beauty products for this particular project (complete list below), and was surprised to find that CVS has a pretty big selection of house brand and name brand goodies at really affordable prices.
- Essie nail polish in Watermelon and Mademoiselle
- St. Ives Invigorating Apricot Scrub
- Altoids Smalls peppermints
- individual pocket packs of Total Home by CVS facial tissue
- Vaseline Lip Therapy Balm in Creme Brulee and Cocoa Butter
- Dove Go Fresh Cool Moisture Body Wash
- Jergens Natural Glow Firming Daily Moisturizer
- Nuance by Salma Hayek Hydrating Rose Petal Balm
- Essence of Beauty by CVS Lavender and Rosemary Body Oil*
- Essence of Beauty by CVS Lavender Hand Cream*
- Essence of Beauty by CVS Lavender Sugar Scrub*
* All Essence of Beauty brand products are made with natural ingredients are are free from artificial dyes, parabens, sulfates and petroleum. Woo!
The hand-stamped tag is of my own making (nerd alert), though you could certainly tuck a card into your jar or just tape a note to the front.
Full disclosure: My jar couldn’t accommodate the sugar scrub or hand cream as both were a bit wider and taller than the dimensions I was working with. If yours can’t either, just throw them into a pretty gift bag (because no time), and include them while gift-giving with a pithy note that says something like “open in case of kid-pocalypse.”
Win your own collection of CVS-brand products and a $25 CVS gift card – because I know you want to get started on your own Spa in a Jar right away – just by letting us know what you would include in your own sanity-saving DIY.
